AliceVision is an Open Source Photogrammetry Framework.
for windows & linux &
MESROOM is the Open Source Photogrammetry Software in it
made by a Non-Profit-Organization
If you've ever wanted to create a 3D mapping on an object, this software can be a cost-effective key tool and wayopener to do it.
But first and foremost, the software is a very practical tool for converting any objects or landscape sections from photos or videos into 3D data.
So to create a 3D model out of a set of photos of a real object or a landscape section, to create your own contents & footages, e.g. in Blender.
Or for quickly creating backgrounds or complet environments for 3D scenes, by doing your own made HDR panoramas or hdri's.
& you can easily create the photos or videos with your cheap smartphone; the shots don't have to be extremely high-quality, but rather, you should take as many shots as possible.
Magic? No!
That's what it's about:
Photogrammetry is the science of making measurements from photographs. It infers the geometry of a scene from a set of unordered photographies or videos. Photography is the projection of a 3D scene onto a 2D plane, losing depth information. The goal of photogrammetry is to reverse this process.
The dense modeling of the scene is the result yielded by chaining two computer vision-based pipelines:
“Structure-from-Motion” (SfM) and “Multi View Stereo” (MVS).

And once you've gained some understanding and mastered the software, we can go a step further:
and now 1 step forward
Photogrammetry for Projection Mapping
It's best to study this introduction to familiarize yourself and get the necessary information.

ut one thing in advance: It's a tough, rocky road to the goal, but you can do it & if you rock that you can truly claim to have mastered video mapping and projection mapping. Everything else that is commonly referred to as mapping, i.e. projecting a few image sections onto various stage elements or deliberately onto a 3D go-kart construct confusing visauals like moast in the goa-scene we see, is a complete joke in comparison.
But I just wanted to give you the free tools to get you there. Now you have to be willing to put in the work.
!!
The software presented here is for Windows/Linux, but for Mac & OSX, you can use "Apple's Object Capture" as a photogrammetry tool.
