Remembering to Mondrian - a free Arena Plugin

To celebrate Piet Mondrian's 154th birthday, I created a free Resolume Arena/Avenue plugin, "Remembering to Mondrian - free&Easy" it's created for this 154th birthday of Piet Mondrian in 2026.

Requirements:
Resume Arena or Avenue 7.24.3
It may, however, run down to version 7.22.1

  SOUL-DANCE OF FORM AND COLOR

  by a touch of MONDRIAN

.
Piet Mondrian lets the soul of geometry dance to this day's
if no longer on canvas,
then now on the screen.

Get your "Strict Lines, Primary Colors & Infinite Motion" Resolume Generator – for free right now!

How to get the plugin and lots of additional information you can be found here:
https://mywix3.wixsite.com/bennoh/post/soul-dance-of-form-and-color-by-a-touch-of-mondrian-a-bennoh-newperspective

Piet Mondrian didn't just paint squares; he decoded the rhythm of the modern world. Today, his influence lives on in everything from skyscrapers to high-end fashion. With this plugin, I bring his vision to the digital stage and let it flow and fly in our new media world – a dance of primary colors in straight geometrics.

I, bennoH., have now attempted in 2026 to create an alternative perspective on “De Stijl” in the age of real-time shaders.

       - - - - - - -

Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan,

born on March 7 1872 in the Netherlands, known as Piet Mondrian, was a pioneer of abstract art. He is best known as the founder of „De Stijl“ (Neo-Plasticism) and on of the primary founders of Constructivism and Concrete Art.

From the 1920s onwards, Mondrian created his iconic strictly geometric paintings characterized by black grids combined with rectangular fields in primary colors (red, blue, yellow) plus white and beige. These works continue to influence art, architecture, fashion, advertising, and popular culture to this day.

Many people know Mondrian only for his geometric late works, but few realize that in his early decades he painted landscapes and other figurative motifs, often with surprising use of color.

Many know Mondrian only for his geometric late works, but few realize that in his early decades he painted landscapes and other figurative motifs, often with surprising use of color and in styles close to Impressionism, Pointillism or Cubism, which ultimately led him to the reductive "De Stijl".

His theoretical work "Le Néo-Plasticisme" was published in 1925 as Bauhaus Book No. 5 under the title "Neue Gestaltung" (New Design). This unmistakable statement also demonstrates the high regard in which his work is held for the modern art world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet_Mondrian -- https://www.wikiart.org/en/piet-mondrian

Xxx

7.18.1 - 7.19.2 !!

As promised in my December "free software" recommendation, I've tried to make the gift plugin available for the holidays. I already released two plugins in November that can be used as backgrounds or patterns for festive occasions, so I'm including them again & integrated this 2 into the accompanying arena composition with the new "Multiflex HoliBauble" Arena/Avenue plugin. This composition also includes a background based purely on standard arena/avenue generators and effects, which I've further refined for you and this special occasion. So, you can now light up the four Advent candles – meaning you'll receive four great new additions.

Free Software – My Recommendation of the Month December 2025 “Blender & DaVinci-Resolve + club festive Sounds”

Unfortunately, I was unable to create a recommendation post in November, and since we now was have Black Friday, stay in Advent, and it's not so soon to Christmas, I'm summarizing some things about the festive spirit here. Both recommended software packages are available free of charge for Windows, Linux, or OSX and can be used for commercial purposes without restriction.

Yes, most of you probably already know Blender. Nevertheless, I'd like to explicitly draw your attention to this spectacular 3D program and encourage everyone to use it regularly to create their own content for their VJ shows. Blender now masters not only all disciplines in the field of 3D creation but also has a really useful video sequencer for easily editing the results into videos. But in that view I'll also be discussing DaVinci Resolve in this recommendation post, becuse that allows a high professional-level for videocutting, video VFX, color grading, and even sound design.

But first, let's get back to Blender. Version 5.0 is a remarkable release with many incredible and noteworthy new features, and since the introduction of the Geometry Node in version 3, this has developed enormously forwording, especially to our advantage as VJs or content producers for visuals is'it a greatful thing that Geometry Node. It not only simplifies complex tasks but also makes many things possible in the first place. Above all, it gives you absolute control over many options and settings in a very user-friendly way. Anyone who has ever used Blender to create video loops or visuals in general has almost certainly accessed the capabilities of the Geometry Node. This means that once you've learned the basics of Blender, you should immediately dedicate yourself to exploring this node type. You'll also find that many trick effect add-ons are largely based on Geometry nodes. However, by no means everything that is potentially possible with it has been done or discovered yet, and it is constantly being expanded with sub-nodes and additional functions, essentially evolving into a kind of subsystem within Blender itself. Of course, the rest of the indispensable modifiers are also absolutely essential for creating visuals, and Blender offers so many such tools and elements that one has to be careful not to get too lost in them.

But to emphasize once again, Blender 5.0 has indeed set some major new milestones; it's a groundbreaking update in many respects and has been long awaited.

https://youtu.be/4wEqD-jK0DU Blender5 news overview by Jonathan Lampel & frinds from CGCookie

All of this leads me to explicitly and highly recommend Blender here for VJ's and Videoartists.

  https://www.blender.org/

Besides the actual Blender software with all its spectacular tools and features, there are now and up countless free add-ons for Blender that make your work significantly easier and seem perfectly suited to the VJ workflow. Some even come with ready-to-use assets, while others allow you to quickly create assets or attractive 3D objects, and again others allow you to incorporate Hollywood-style special effects in a very quick and simple way with just a few clicks. Make sure you download the correct version for your Blender version. I tested many of the ones listed below in "Blendr 4.5 LTS," but there are certainly more up-to-date versions available for Blender 5.
& I found many free add-ons via YouTube. Here's a list of some that I found interesting or extremely useful. I didn't even search extensively, so there are probably many more to discover, but here's my short list:

Buildify - a quick and easy way to create blocks of houses:

The individual objects can be nested within each other to create larger structures

Abstract, illusory designs are also possible

I found Buildify via this YouTube Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ch7qlc0fE8&list=PLZhRms_gRbtFnhg0zDT0eFNE8sgLKWRuL&index=30

& the YT video description contains a link to the free Blender add-on.

📌
📌
📌
BagaPie Modifier - is a very comprehensive add-on with assets in the paid version, but the free version still offers a fantastic number of very useful features. I particularly appreciate the grouping function, as this feature was simply removed from Blender self after Blender 2.7, but it's extremely important, even indispensable, for my own workflow. I simply dislike the whole child/adult object systems; for my generally simpler creations, this overly complicated child/adult object system is a real ordeal. With the "BagaPie Modifier," I get the good old grouping function back, allowing me to quickly and efficiently animate individual objects together with a single centered or rapidly adapted pivot point. But there's also a extrem huge number of other features and additional modifiers coms with BagaPie-Modifier. It's well worth taking a look and seeing what's available in the free version. I highly recommend it.

3+ grouped objects in the group box

BagaPie provide 50+ tools for architecture and environment
https://extensions.blender.org/add-ons/bagapie/

The tutorial on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSVXpfzibQbh_qjzCP2buB2rK1lQtkQvu

https://abaga.gumroad.com/l/BbGVh

The custom user interface, which you can access with "j", immediately shows how extensive the possibilities are

📌
📌
📌
I also find the possibilities of BY-GEN very interesting, even amusing

https://curtisjamesholt.gumroad.com/l/BY-GEN

BY-GEN is a multipurpose toolkit designed to help people create artwork utilizing generative techniques within Blender.

📌
📌
📌
Another highlight from the range of free Blender add-ons is:

https://youtu.be/OCTwhHCklvs /

https://amanbairwal.gumroad.com/l/GeoCables

📌

However, there is a very similar newer variant called Slime:

Procedural Slime Add-on for Blender
https://artichoke18.gumroad.com/l/spsra
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJEvaeTNCkw

📌
📌
📌

A complex collection of assets in the sci-fi segment is also available if you are willing to disclose your email address, i.e., register with the provider:

Mission to Minerva - kitbash3D File Size 4.11GB

You can build similar scenes with it (excluding the landscape

I found it via: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=764ND4wgVrM where the download link can be found in the video description.

It's important to understand that these are simply many individual elements that can be used to create your own scenes, and loading all the assets before you can use them is somewhat GPU-intensive. Not really recommended for a mid-range laptop, but otherwise a thoroughly valuable and recommendable collection of objects.

🎀🎄🥳🎁🎁🥳🎄🎀
🙆💖😋
🎄➕🎁➕🎁🎀💫👏

In addition, YouTube offers a wealth of ideal tutorial projects for VJs, which can be used as V-Loops or content. Usually, you have to recreate them yourself step by step, or you can pay a very small fee to download the finished project file. I highly recommend working through the tutorials & rebuild all like it' shown in the videos to access the content for free. This approach offers many advantages: You constantly learn new techniques, tools, and workflows in Blender; you can easily adapt the projects to your own tastes or needs because you know exactly where and how everything is created and determined; you can immediately see if things work in your own, often newer, Blender version or look for solutions within the development process. On the other hand, if you were to download the entire project, it might not even open in your own Blender version, or it might be missing a lot of components, or it might be incorrectly structured, leaving you unsure of the source of the errors and why it doesn't work as shown. There are other reasons why reproducing the tutorial projects yourself is advisable, which I recommend. I can also provide some links here, although you can often find further useful resources in the channels where these are located. If you search on YouTube using keywords, I recommend "geometrienode," "effect," "visual," "VJ loop," etc., always in conjunction with the search term "Blender," for example, "Blender Geometrienode." In the links I've listed, you'll also find tag lists that can be helpful for further searching. If you use the YouTube app and access the relevant tutorials through it, YouTube will also frequently suggest similar or related videos. Some of these are quite useful or at least lead you to other interesting and helpful videos. I can only say that you can find a wealth of useful material this way, and it's more a question of how much time you're willing to invest in recreating the projects based on all the tutorials. Often, individual steps aren't shown or explained precisely, such as how and where to do what in Blender. Consider this a challenge and don't immediately abandon what you've started. However, there are also videos specifically designed to trick you into purchasing the project. Therefore, if you find that certain videos consistently contain gaps in explanation, consider dismissing that project and that source/channel.

Examples/tutorials of video loops and content created with Blender:

💫😋
🎀🎄🥳🎁🎁🥳🎄🎀
😉🍒🎆

You will definitely benefit enormously, experience success in various ways, and bring joy to yourself and others if you are willing to engage with this truly gigantic, glorious, and endlessly versatile free 3D program. The more time you invest, the more exponential your returns will be.

As a true VJ, you should simply use Blender and at least master the basics; otherwise, you'll miss out on a wonderful gift and one of the most effective opportunities to create your own content and solidify your personal style.

As mentioned, Blender 5.0 once again features groundbreaking innovations and improvements. Many clever developers have worked on this major update for the community for a long time, and the results are more than impressive. Blender has been a serious competitor in the 3D market for years, but now it is increasingly becoming a leader in the field, setting new standards. Considering that competing products like Maya, Cinema3D, etc., cost a lot of money and constantly incur update fees, Blender truly earns its name and eclipses all competitors as open-source and therefore free software. Those who have built up extensive expertise with paid programs now only regret it when they look at Blender. It is therefore worthwhile in every respect to familiarize oneself with Blender, even if one only learns and masters the basic functions and operation. Of course, one can always build upon this foundation in stages, expanding this know-how and specifically targeting the desired results, such as looped animations for VJs.

Some interesting YouTube channels for Blender enthusiasts:

🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀
🌲🎄🌲🎄🌲🎄🌲

As promised at the beginning, this month I'd like to recommend another piece of software that's almost indispensable and incredibly helpful for VJs. This software, especially when used with Blender, elevates the results to a whole new level. While this software is primarily a paid program, it also offers a free version that is perfectly usable and leaves little to be desired.

DaVinci Resolve is a solution that combines editing, color correction, visual effects, motion graphics and audio post production all in one software tool!

The main GUI is divided into "pages," each of which gives you a dedicated workspace and tools for a specific task. Editing is done on the cut and edit pages, visual effects and motion graphics on the Fusion page, color correction on the color page, audio on the Fairlight page, and media organization and output on the media and deliver pages.

With DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design in its free version, you can, for example, transform animation frames calculated in Blender into the required format—that is, cut and edit them. But above all, you can significantly refine the Blender results with special effects or combine various individually calculated animations from Blender and/or live-action footage into a perfect compositing, adding special effects and making color adjustments—all at a flawless, up-to-date professional level. Blackmagic Design is incredibly generous with the features included in the free version, allowing the use of virtually all the essential tools and features. The amazing thing is that the results and application are completely legal for commercial projects. So, if you, as a VJ, use the results at large events, in clubs, etc., you can do so without any restrictions. Furthermore, many important input and output formats, including video codecs and resolutions, are supported, leaving almost nothing to be desired in DaVinci Resolve, even in its free version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOwvjUMvtS0

What's new in Davinci-Resolve 20

Blackmagic Design is incredibly generous with its free version, allowing you to use virtually all the essential tools and features. DaVinci Resolve is one of the most sought-after applications in professional settings, making it well worth investing time to learn. If you later decide to upgrade to the full version for the relatively inexpensive $300 USD, you'll receive free updates and stay up-to-date. This business policy has been in place for over 10 years, which is quite unique and, price-wise, puts any comparable software in the shade. However, whether this update policy will continue indefinitely is not guaranteed and could change. The full version truly leaves nothing to be desired in the field of video editing; you'll benefit from the latest developments, as Blackmagic Design is one of the absolute leaders in the film industry.

The software itself consists of two originally separate, highly successful applications, now combined into one. Therefore, learning the free version is definitely worthwhile, even several times over.

Please find detailed information about features and everything else on the excellent and easy-to-understand DaVinci Resolve website.

If you have any questions, there's a great forum, and in addition, a wealth of extra information is scattered across the web, including tons of tutorials, tips, and other useful information about DaVinci Resolve on YouTube.

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve WEB-Site and DL-Point

& here you can find some free plugins; but there are certainly many more:

https://www.freevisuals.net/post/davinci-resolve-plugins

And to make full use of the audio part of DavinciResolve, I'll add 2-3 top radio stations to my recommendation, because, as we all know, sound is what makes the music, or more precisely, it adds flavor and supports the visuals in detail.

https://maxxima.ch/

  https://github.com/IkeC/Milkwave

System Requirements
Windows 10 or later
DirectX 9 or higher - compatible GPU
DirectX End-User Legacy Runtimes
Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8 (for Remote)

After extensively testing Milkwave v3.2/3.3 on Windows 10 with an i9 and my RTX3080 (desktop) in conjunction with Resolume Arena 7.18, I can highly recommend this app for VJs and video artists.

Everything works as advertised by the developer. After initially looking at v3.1, I asked the developer, IkeC, if he could further develop the spout functionality to perfect the native spout-out, as this is crucial for us Resolume Arena users to integrate this app. The developer promptly complied with this request, which I would like to commend. A huge compliment and heartfelt thanks to IkeC!

The installation went smoothly and was user-friendly. It suggested a folder outside the standard Program Files folder, although this could be changed during the installation process. I simply left it in the suggested "Tools" folder, as the standard Program Files location might cause issues with permissions management. Also, don't forget to install the two additional external installation files as described on GitHub (parts of these are often already installed by other VJ apps, etc.).

The app itself consists of two elements: the remote and the visualizer, but the remote is what really defines Milkwave. It's best to start the app via the remote, so the visualizer and remote start together, which is necessary for our VJing purposes.

Remote --------------------------------- Visualizer

After the quick installation, everything works perfectly, and the native spout is immediately ready to use. To do this, select "Settings" in the remote menu. For embedded use in Arena or other VJ software, I recommend immediately activating "Fixed" (so that a window size defined by you, and not the window size of the visualizer, is transferred) and defining the desired resolution in the two fields next to it. For example, for a FullHD Arena composition, set 1920 and 1080. You can use the visualizer window itself as a control monitor, but you can also see the output in Arena if you've integrated Milkwave via the spout. To do this, simply select the "Sources" section in Arena and scroll all the way down to the spout servers, where you'll find "Milkwave." Drag it onto a clip to complete the integration into Arena. First, click on the lower part of the clip's name to preview the Milkwave output in Arena and see everything you do directly in the Milkwave Remote menu or the Visualizer. Therefore, I recommend significantly minimizing the Milkwave Visualizer window itself, as this saves considerable GPU power. However, do not move the Visualizer window to the taskbar to hide it from your monitor, as this causes interference with texture sharing, severely impacting spout transmission. Completely closing the Visualizer window is also not possible, as this would prevent any signal from being output via spout, since the shading is generated within the Visualizer and therefore it must be running. If this bothers you too much, you could move the Visualizer window to a virtual desktop on Windows 10/11.

Under "Settings," usually set the "Quality" to 1.0. You will see that lower values do not meet the standards required for VJing. There are also some presets in the "Milkwave" preset folder that are extremely GPU-intensive and therefore not really suitable for our application in Arena. Sort these out according to the capabilities of your GPU to avoid damaging your hardware and to guarantee a smooth workflow, including the use of 3-7 layers plus several simultaneous effects in the clips active in Arena, as is common practice in VJing. To ensure this, I still recommend working in full HD (1080p) and avoiding 4K, in order to guarantee truly creative and versatile real-time VJing.

I already published a positive review of the NestDropClassicV2 app here in the Resolume forum. Like the MilkWave app presented and recommended here, both apps use so-called MilkDrops, meaning they access MilkDrop presets and essentially use them as shaders. However, MilkWave offers something special in its remote section with the "Wave" menu item. There, you can directly and in real time manipulate certain shader code values via a user-friendly GUI, which is precisely the feature sought after in VJing. Some of these Wave menu options are simple on/off features, while others are freely adjustable values. This Wav feature isn't available in all presets, but it is in most usable. However, I'd also like to mention that NestDropClassicV2 offers features that are unique to it, such as the ability to send multiple presets to Arena simultaneously via several separately titled spouts, which is always very welcome in the VJing field.

Returning to Milkwave, it's worth mentioning that you could import shadertoy code, but unfortunately, this is no longer possible due to recent access restrictions imposed by Shadertoy.com. Nevertheless, you can still load code copied from Shadertoy.com and saved to a file, or convert AI-modified shader code into MilkDrops and use it. The code can also be edited and saved directly in the "Shader" menu.

Furthermore, Milkwave allows you to integrate sprits or text messages into the shader output. However, I haven't tested this extensively, as it's not particularly relevant for me as a VJ. I would generate text directly in Arena using the appropriate plugins and their much broader range of features. As an Arena user, I much prefer using layers instead of sprits. This allows me to integrate other shaders/generators or content and supplement/support them with any effects. While sprits themselves require extremely small amounts of data, since they are embedded in the texture during milkwave output, this doesn't really save GPU resources. Another frequently used advantage of sprits is their easy repeatability, which I can achieve in Arena using loops. Furthermore, if I'm using code (shaders) rather than video as content, I'm better off this way. And above all, sprits have a look reminiscent of the early 80s, which might be appealing for certain types of content, but they're not really up-to-date with today's AI content.

In contrast, Milkwave's freely configurable integrated MIDI interface is exactly what a VJ could want. However, some caution is advised, and I haven't tested what happens when controlling Arena via a MIDI controller and simultaneously trying to control Milkwave via the same or a second controller. I imagine this could be somewhat tricky and create conflicts or at least be associated with limitations.

Audio reactivity (motion synchronization) is also an essential tool in VJing, and Milkwave provides this with the option to select the audio source, such as mic or line input, soundcart-master L+R, etc., and a sensitivity setting in the "Preset" menu. What and how the audio input is addressed is preset and generally well-designed, and can still be adjusted to a rudimentary degree by tweaking the "Amp" option.

It took me a long time to figure out how to disable the automatic preset switching, which is probably not a standard or frequently used feature in VJing. Basically, all you have to do is click the large "PresetLock" button to block the automatic switching, or re-enable it with another click at the „Preset“ menu of the remote. It's not ideal that the button's position isn't immediately obvious, which is what led to my extremely long search, presumably. Therefore, here's the clear and detailed explanation from me for this simple yet essential featureso you do not trap in seam. SongInfo and SoundInfo are not transmitted via Spout and only to the Visualizer window, so this shouldn't concern us too much. However, if you still want to know which preset is currently active you can check the "Running" textbox in the Remote (3rd top line in the „Preset“ menu).

Otherwise, I recommend skimming through the Manual.md file on GitHub and studying the sections that interest you more closely. This doesn't take much time but can clarify a lot and be quite helpful. The manual: https://github.com/IkeC/Milkwave/blob/main/Build/Manual.md

Well, all that remains for me to emphasize is that, as mentioned, the program accesses MilkDrops, meaning you can use hundreds of thousands of presets that are generally freely available online. However, professional VJs using this for commercial purposes should be aware that this doesn't mean they can simply use these presets in their work, i.e., exploit them commercially. They might need to delve deeply into the respective licenses, which, in my experience, is almost impossible because it's very difficult to locate the copyright holders, let alone obtain their contact information. I've never seen a license notice, email address, or website in the MilkDrops themselves, i.e., the presets or the code. In reality, little attention seems to be paid to such things, and the result is evident on platforms like GLSLSandbox or Shadertoy, which restrict access to prevent or minimize misuse. The problem is known, and before one can dismiss it or consider it invalid, one must overthink it's important to consider how you feel about your own creations being used by others without permission, especially in a commercial context of sutch use, which is what VJing at events is in 95% of cases. However, if you don't simply use the MikDrops (the presets) as is(pure), but instead adjust them in the „Wave“ menu of the remot and, most importantly, mix them in Arena with other content until it's that creation essentially a new piece of work, this can be a viable solution. Therefore, using Arena or similar software is ideal, as recommended if you want to use Milkwave or something similar for VJing.

Despite all that, here's the link to an almost unbelievable MilkDrop's package: "MilkDrop 130k+ Presets MegaPack 2025.zip / 4.1GB":
https://forums.winamp.com/forum/visualizations/milkdrop/milkdrop-presets/4625022-73k-presets-megapack

Or the „presets-cream-of-the-crop“, a collection of nearly 10,000 MilkDrops curated by Jason Fletcher at a githubrepository:
https://github.com/projectM-visualizer/presets-cream-of-the-crop

I also tried to shed some light on the moast usual licensing of MilkDrops with claude.ai, and the gist of it was this:
The situation is: The software is clearly licensed (BSD), but the presets exist in a gray area between "no explicit copyright" and "de facto public domain due to years of free use."

Furthermore, I would like to clearly and explicitly point out the license of Milkwave Remote:
Milkwave Remote is licensed under the Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License, meaning you may not use the material for commercial purposes. See LICENSE.txt for details.

I think the developer IkeC wanted to protect themselves with this type of licensing, since it's obviously very unclear how MilkDrops are licensed in genereal, and if nothing specific is mentioned in the code, then strictly speaking, one has to assume the author's copyright is protected.

That would make the situation even more complicated, and you can surely understand that I won't and can't recommend commercial use under these conditions.

On the other hand, I can also refer to https://github.com/projectM-visualizer/ ... 57b1d2c406
the standard MikDrop collection curated by Jason Fletcher, which also includes a license notice and essentially treats the nearly 10,000 MikDrops there as somwhat like public domain, stating that anyone who doesn't want their MikDrop in the collection should simply get in touch and it will be removed. Well, I'm not Jason and won't say anything further about it; I've already made my point above, but I wanted to illustrate that there are indeed different perspectives on the issue of MikDrop licensing.

IkeC also says the following regarding the above statements of me:
„A) The Milkwave-Remote and the Milkwave-Visualizer have different licenses.
B)Why this difference? The Milkwave Remote license basically says if you do something with the Remote source code, it must remain open source as well. This protects against someone using the Remote features in a commercial product.
But The presets themselves are not covered by either of these licenses.“

I conclude from his objection that the use of the Milkwave remote for professional VJing, i.e., VJing in a commercial context, does not pose a problem; in other words, IkeC, the developer, and the license for the remote do not prohibit this, but rather the exclusion of commercial use mainly refers to the modification and use of the freely accessible source code of the remote, so that this code may not be integrated into proprietary software or into a sales product of any other kind.

Hhowever this does nothing change to the licensing situation for the individual MilkDrop's/presets, and I maintain that their use is highly questionable. I bear no responsibility for their use and would like to add that this disclaimer also applies to IkeC. As I said, I can only suggest transforming the presets into new, independent artworks, but this is always a balancing act in the event of a legal dispute, as such assessments are always highly contentious and opinions can differ.

So here's my final tip: NestDropClassicV2 has an effects section that I somewhat miss in Milkwave, but that's not a real drawback, as Arena's effects palette via plugins is light-years ahead anyway. So and in other views, hope your understand, I highly recommend thoroughly researching MilkDrops before using them, first for GPU-friendliness, and second, and very to up extrimly importantly, which Arena effects can be used with which MilkDrop presets and settings. You'll be amazed at what you can get out of MilkDrops wit mixing Arena-effects in and how much you can modify them almost beyond recognition, creating incredibly stunning, visually powerful, and visually stunning big pictures. The sheer number of available MilkDrops is particularly impressive, and as mentioned, you can also mix MilkDrops in Arena to create your own unique shaders as a plus make-unique-tecnic. Don't make it too easy for yourselves & voyeur's and be prepared to invest some time in creative crafting. It's worth it in every respect and, once you develop some practice, is what makes using Milkwave using in Arena so much fun.
Take care of yourselves and don't do anything I wouldn't do, yours bennoH.

& so I'll give the floor again to IkeC, who would like to add for the end of this post:
„If people report issues or request features at Github, I'll gladly look at them. I'm also happy if people support me on Ko-fi. It's not about the money really, but tokens of appreciation like this show me whether it's worth spending so much time on this project or not and with these last words here I IkeC send my warmest greetings to the entire VJ-community.“

2 free Resolume Arena plugins as ... .. .

2 free Arena/Avenue plugins as the final & last element of my TiXL-recommendation post

under the "freeVJing License 1.7 Tight"

Yes, dear people, if you've now recreated the assets in my TiXL tutorial (free software recommendation Sept. 25) post in the Resolume-forum, one essential element is still missing: the night sky or stars and planets like a space background. And for this, I've designed and built two Arena plugins for you. One is a pure, very gently animated, almost static starry sky, just like it is in reality, and the other is a slightly impressive but still rather subdued "stars/planet space background." Combined, the two create a very atmospheric and not overly exaggerated, yet visually interesting and softly animated space night sky, as the necessary sci-fi sky as the background for the TiXL "free assets".
Of course, these two plugins are free and freely usable for VJing or other performances, even if they are commercial in nature. However, you may not share these two plugins, use them for other commercial purposes, etc. – please read the license before opening the zip file.

Here are some screenshots but read my post in the Resolume-forum to get the ShowcaseVideos of the plugins and all infos like teh DL-Link:

TiXL, the motion graphics software for live visuals with higher demands, but not of a financial but purely technical nature, offers you the exceptional opportunity to get started or expand your use of this groundbreaking real-time video software at the renowned "MotionLab.Berlin" during "Berlin Digital Art Week". And you'll be amazed: the two-day workshop, led by the developers of Tooll3/TiXL4, is free of charge, just like the open-source VJ software itself. TiXL appeals to far more than just VJs with its extremely broad capabilities, which are continually being expanded with features from the latest cutting-edge technologies in the scene. Therefore, TiXL is popular and widely used both in the demoscene and among compositors working on everything from immersive projections to MR, XR and AR. In particular, the integrated real 3D capabilities, such as sophisticated particle systems, as well as standard tools in the scene such as native spout in/out and communication options via ArtNet tools, and much more, not least the MIT licensing, are transforming this software more and more from an insider tip to one of the top of the scene, and not without reason. Come and see for yourself.

https://tixl.app/

Free Software – My Recommendation of the Month „August 2025“ „IFS Renderer 1.4.1“

3D IFS fractal renderer and editor

By a change & for once, I bennoH. would like to recommend here in August 2025 a piece of software that is suitable for creating very independent, high-quality videoloops, is free and easy to use. So you can build your own real stilish VJ-Loops.

Minimum Requirements
Windows 10 or later
OpenGL 4.5 capable graphics card
The GPU is put under a lot of strain during final rendering and this strain cannot be reduced!!

Programm-WebSite: https://ifsrenderer.z97.io/

A short YT-demovideo of the software:

YT by bezo97

So I don't have anything against videoloops in VJing, but they should be created by the VJ themselves and not come from commercials. Ideally, VJ loops are created specifically for the event in question, such as flyers, location logos, or other CI elements like by color schemes, shapes and logos, etc. can be abstracted from them. Custom theme sets are certainly acceptable, but they have to be completely independently created, as high-quality elements and developed from original ideas and not simply copied from somewhere else. Purchased elements, no matter how good the quality, are very cheap and absolutly inacceptable in my opinion; they're simply not compatible with the job of a VJ. A VJ is, first of all, an artist and should live up to that reputation and not simply use other people's stuff or comercial maden stuff, that's not art or artful!!! Furthermore, selling these VJ loops has become a bad habit, tempting ordinary music DJs, or rather, offering them the opportunity to takeover jobs from real VJs and, as a music DJ, also offer the event organizer visuals. All of this is very detrimental to this digital art form, VJing. So create your own videoloops and keep them for yourself and do not sell or shar them.
This software, the IFS-Renderer, offers you the opportunity to do that without having to invest weeks or months in studying or money, and you can still create very stylish and original, but above all, your own, VJ-loops.

So, as I was surfing the web for fun again, looking for SDFs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signed_distance_function#) and sstuff like that around, I came across a website that mentioned an "IFS renderer.". Since I'm always curious about information on ISF fragmentshaders, I perked up wide. But wait, IFS isn't ISF, did they mistype? What's going on?! I looked into it and came across a GitHub page with a program called "3D IFS Fractal Renderer with Editor," or „IFS Renderer“ for short. I quickly browsed the GitHub I found. And yes, ahh, fractal stuff! Yes, that's what the images on the website that first caught my attention looked like, but they were the finest fractal stuff, which really piqued my curiosity.

Image

Since a free Windows 10 installer was available for the program, and the software is licensed under the GPL 3.0, I quickly installed it, following the motto "it's free - nothing to lose". And lo and behold! A truly appealing GUI appeared after launching the program, allowing me to quickly and intuitively achieve very nice, high-quality results. In the "Getting Started Guide," I found the remaining information I needed to quickly create my own short film as a short VJ loop.[/color]

Image

The quasi-Node-based, highly flexible yet easy-to-use editor, with its time stamping capabilities, is ideal for creating your own precise compositions. However, an even simpler option is also offered via the "GENERATOR" button. The quick start guide describes this very aptly: „Experienced fractal artists may start from scratch (File / New) and open the Editor right away. Beginners will find the Generator window useful, which can be used to easily create a starting fractal to build on. The idea is similar to how the mutation feature works in other fractal programs, using the power of evolution.“!

Image

The wiki, with its topic structure on the right-hand side, also offers in-depth online reading and references such as where and what. It's very detailed, comprehensive, and easy to understand.
https://github.com/bezo97/IFSRenderer/wiki/

In addition, links are also offered there, such as this YT tutorial link to a more in-depth application together with Blender:

Image

Developer Zoltán Dócs has done a very good job here. The software is suitable for both newbies and absolute pros of the scene, true to the motto: "Take a look and get started," but also "there's always more to it!"

I highly recommend this app to all discerning VJs and video artists, as well as video creatives. It's already a lot of fun to play around with it, but creating truly tailor-made works with it can also be a real challenge for a creator and inspire new horizons.
Fractals aren't old-fashioned with this software, but a new challenge in this moving format and the high quality that can be generated with bezo97's ISF renderer. The software's somewhat intuitive usability reminds me of some of the first really good PS plugins, like Kay's back then, although I've long since switched to GIMP these days.

A big shout out to the IFS-Renderer and Zoltán Dócs aka “bezo97”, please make a donation if you can and have been able to make active use of the IFS renderer.

Have fun getting lost in these magical fractal worlds and good luck using the rendered loops in your live performances, wishes bennoH. from the mountainous Switzerland.

German original text:

3D IFS fractal renderer and editor

Was geht?!

Dazu steht sehr treffend in der Kurzanleitung: „Experienced fractal artists may start from scratch (File / New) and open the Editor right away. Beginners will find the Generator window useful, which can be used to easily create a starting fractal to build on. The idea is similar to how the mutation feature works in other fractal programs, using the power of evolution.“!

Image

https://github.com/bezo97/IFSRenderer/wiki

"Coollab 1.4.1 Spout Out" tutorial with includet attachements (by a DL-Link - 6 tutorial Coollab-projects and 1 arena composition)

https://coollab-art.com/

So this month, here in July 2025, I'm recommending and introducing "Coollab" to you. For this, and for the occasion, I'm going a step further and, for the Windows users among you, I've created some project data—ready-made visuals—with Coolab, as well as a Resolume Arena composition to show the very latest feature of Coollab, the native Spout, also known in the scene simply as SpoutOut, in action.

https://github.com/Coollab-Art/Coollab
TutoShow PART 1 of 4

Moreover, I'm also demonstrating a few key aspects of the excellent Coollab.
This software is a pillar of excellence for any VJ or lighting/video artist, and I highly recommend it especially as a complement to Resolume Arena. It's even more recommended if you don't have a Wire license, then Coollab is a genuine alternative to Wire. And I expect Coollab to develop strongly very quickly, thanks on the one hand to the easy entry and the very modern tools and their clean, straightforward programming by a highly accomplished and experienced young visual enthusiast who is also surrounded by other top talent from this creative niche. On the other hand, this team is competing with the really big players like TD, Notch or Smode with real commitment. I see Coollab's current equipment as a counterpart to Resolume-Wire, as I know and use it myself. In Resolume, however, there is absolutely no real 3D, which is related to its creation over 25 years ago, and Resolume has not shown a particularly strong interest in further development. Tools like Smoode-Community or Tooll3 already offer a lot more for free, just like Coollab does compared to Wire, although Coollab certainly still has some catching up to do, but the foundation is really solid and up-to-date, which is something you can't say about Resolume. Furthermore, as open source software, meaning free software under the GPLv3, the opportunity for market development, as Blender has demonstrated, is more than warranted, especially since the visuals sector is currently experiencing extreme growth and momentum. Who wants to spend money when they can get something comparable or even better for free? And who wants to participate and help determine where the train is going and at what pace? In my opinion, all of this speaks volumes in favor of Coollab and that this software has a real chance of following Blender's steep path in its field.

TutoShow PART 2 of 4

My examples will also demonstrate Coollab's multi-instance capabilities (which were apparently intentionally removed from Wire), which are particularly ideal and helpful in connection with spout-out. I'm also specifically addressing all Resolume Arena and Avenue users and showing how easy it is to integrate Coollab via Spout.

TutoShow PART 3 of 4

I'm actively demonstrating Coollab's special 3D features, which are unfortunately completely missing in Resolume and can therefore be worth their weight in gold as an ideal addition for VJing. I'm also demonstrating that Coollab's multi-instance capability is almost a perfect replacement for Wire, and as mentioned, it's free (that can't be repeated often enough), since Coollab is open source under the GPL3. Therefore, you can even extend and adapt Coollab to your own specific needs; the source code is freely available and usable on GitHub.

TutoShow PART 4 of 4

I personally hope that the use of ISFs will be implemented in Coollab soon, which would make many nodes currently missing compared to Wire unnecessary and, of course, will massively increase the efficiency and usefulness of Coollab in one fell swoop.

First, however, Syphon and other more important things will perhaps be included and things witch ar longer on the roadmap. Syphon so that the Mac community can also use the great broadcasting options, similar to Spout on Windows, and Mac and Win users are on the same level and contributes to the project together. Then there is the issue of multiple Spouts in the same project, i.e. the same instance, but from different nodes, for example, just as native Sput reception in Coollab itself is still pending. So there is a lot that will be happening there in the near future and the best thing about it is that you can help out and be right there and close to the action. So don't complain that this or that is taking too long. With the Coollab project, unlike programs like Wire or TD, you have the opportunity to take things into your own hands. If you can't program, just get a cheap subscription on Claude.ai and there under Projects you can transfer the GitHub files from Coollab to claude.ai so that they are available to you in the AI model and you can then collaborate on Coollab and its source code via AI. So let's turn it into a real-time video environment together, like Blender has become in the 3D community. It's possible, and you decide how, what, where, and when, who you really want to do it, and whether you're willing to contribute.

The German version is authoritative;
translated into English using Google Translate

And if I say at the beginning "In the attached tutorial project I show how the native Spout (Spoutsender), the latest feature as of July 2025, is used in Coollab and more." then here are the more, 6 Coollab project-files & 1 Resolume Arena composition-file etc. as promised!

General Terms of Use:
All tutorial fields and content in the zip file are licensed under the "freeVJing License 1.6":https://github.com/bennoH2025/freeVJing-license/blob/main/freeVJing%20License%20%20V-1.6.md and may only be used for commercial VJing. all other commercial uses are strictly prohibited.
By downloading and opening the zip file, you confirm that you accept and agree to comply with these terms of use.

By entering the password when unpacking, you accept all terms of use, i.e. that the data in the zip is subject to the "freeVJing License 1.6".

The password for the zip file "TutoShow Data for Coollab & Arena.zip" is:
I agree to the terms of use

Size of the Zip-file: 1.51 MB (1’589’248 Bytes)

  DL-Link:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/15Xkp-LoCnaScySJjmpXi_HTCsrKfiPjk/view?usp=sharing

Instructions for installing the tutorial project:
The prerequisite for this to work is:

at least Windows 10

a halfway decent GPU / something comparable to an RTX 2080 or higher

Arena/Avenue 7.18.1 or higher (although I don't know if the latest versions interpret the composition
completely like mine, etc. lik it wil work with Avenue)

Coollab version "1.4.1 Spout-Out" installed

The installation actually consists of two parts/elements: on the one hand, the things related to Resolume Arena/Avenue, and on the other hand, the required Coollab project files, which we'll take care of first:

Step 1:
Since you probably haven't installed Coollab yet, go to the website https://coollab-art.com/ and download version "1.4.1 Spout-Out" under Download. Then disconnect from the website and install Coollab.

Step 2:
Please copy all files from the unzipped zip file I created in the "Coollab Projects" folder to the following location/folder:
C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\Coollab Launcher\Projects

Step 3:
Please copy the file in the "A-Comp" folder from the unzipped zip file I created to the following location/folder:
C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\Documents\Resolume Arena\Compositions

That's it, and you're ready to open the included Coolab projects one by one so that the results (visuals) are then directly available in Arena via Spout. It's important that you restart the Coollab program separately for each project, so that multiple Coollabs are open at the same time. For each project, check whether the spout is open and activated before opening the next one. According to my Coolab project files, this should be the case. If not, open the spout and enter the name to be set according to the Arena composition (which you can then check in Arena – it's a bit tricky, but 95% of the time you won't need it; the spout should already be open and titled in all Coollab projects).
How to set up/open a spout in a Coollab project is shown in detail in this post, including a very short GIF animation: https://github.com/Coollab-Art/Coollab/issues/139
Or here is the link to the relevant GIF. self:

Now boot up Arena, search for and load the composition "Coollab ExamplesComp for nativ Spout" and it should look and behave like in my YouTube videos at https://www.youtube.com/@CodekillsVideoLoops . This gives you a solid and motivating foundation for creating 3D objects or other visuals in Coollab and integrating them into my Arena composition to really rock your weekend shows.
I don't know if the composition will open in Avenue, but I doubt it. You can send me an email about your experiences with this or anyone else using this tutorial to code.kills.videoloops@gmail.com .

You can find the tutorial videos for the whole thing on my YouTube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/@CodekillsVideoLoops

Bud I had to split this into four parts because they take a total of 40 minutes.

🏵️🌃🌆🎆🐿️🐿️🐼🐿️🐿️🎆🌆🌃🏵️

If you enjoyed my style of visuals, I'd like to draw your attention to my Arena plugins I released
Youl find infos for it on my WEB-Site https://mywix3.wixsite.com/bennoh/post/code-kill-s-videoloops or you ask my by a Email for detail infos.
🥳😜

OK, I hope you're having a good summer
or just a good time so I don't know where on earth you're doing VJing.

With only the best wishes and greetings from the mountainous Switzerland at summer of 2025,
your bennoH.🐼 & 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️

The German version is authoritative;
translated into English using Google Translate.

Installiertes Coollab Version „1.4.1 Spout-Out“

C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\Coollab Launcher\Projects

Step 3:
C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\Documents\Resolume Arena\Compositions

freeVJing License 1.5 - help establish a new, specialized VJ license

Please join the discussion here. It's in your interest as a creative to have as much free access to VJ content as possible and to exchange ideas with other members of the scene for free, without those with purely financial interests being able to exploit this.
MIT and CCO are wonderful licenses that I've used and integratet extensively myself. They're concise and clearly understandable for everyone, and I really appreciate that. But unfortunately, both leave room for abuse when it comes to our situation in the VJ scene. Sharing things with like-minded people who behave similarly is great and commendable, but blindly making things available for sharing in general is rather foolish. So I've drafted a text with AIs that's heavily inspired by MIT and CCO, as short and easy to understand as possible, and I think it's a good fit. But see for yourself, share your criticisms and suggestions, and tell me if you're planning to use this instead of MIT and CCO in your future work, if you support the idea, and where you might see it being used next.

  Here's the license text:

freeVJing License 1.5
Copyright (c) 2025 bennoH.

Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), to deal in the Software solely for the following permitted uses:

PERMITTED USES:
VJ Performances: Use in VJ performances at events of any kind, including commercial events

Video Art Installations: Use by light and video artists in art installations of any form, including immersive and 360-degree installations

Live Visual Arts: Use in live visual performances and artistic presentations

PERMITTED MODIFICATIONS:
The Software may be modified and extended

Modified versions must be distributed under this same license

All original credits and annotations in the source code must be preserved

Additional credits and annotations may be added

PERMITTED DISTRIBUTION:
The Software may be redistributed free of charge only

Distribution must include this license and all original credits

Distribution must be under the same license terms

PROHIBITED USES:
Commercial Products: Incorporation into commercial software products or packages for sale

Video Loop Creation: Creating video loops or pre-rendered content using this Software

Any commercial use outside of VJ performances and video art installations

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

This initiative is supported too by Claude.ai, who makes a vague comment:
Why the license works so well:
Community-friendly: VJs and video artists can work freely and even appear commercially
Protection against exploitation: Prevents your work from ending up in commercial products
Easy to understand: Everyone can quickly understand what is and isn't allowed
Beneficial for the scene: Encourages creative use in the live visual community
"freeVJing-1.5" could even become a standard in the VJ community – it solves a real problem that many shader developers have.

A combination of technically sound code and a well-thought-out, community-oriented license makes your projects even stronger and, above all, more sustainable!

This initiative is supported by Claude.ai, who makes a vague comment:

A combination of technically solid code and a well-thought-out, community-oriented license makes your projects even stronger and, above all, more sustainable!

And bennoH. adds here.:
And up of it, by licensing under the "freeVJing 1.5," you demonstrate openness to sharing and your willingness to promote the spirit of community, support the prevention of exploitative abuse of creative work, and set clear boundaries. Show that you support ecologically sustainable tools and technologies and want to rein in outdated energy-wasting technologies (code or shaders versus video loops), and set clear limits in this regard to prevent the wrong use from being made of your work. All in all, you demonstrate that you recognize the situation we live in and are ready to act, and with your actions, you call on others to do the same.

Of course, you should always enter your name where my version says bennoH. But the text itself should be adopted as a whole to achieve standardization. If many others follow this call, we can jointly form an organization in a future step, which will give this license a firm footing with an official character.

I spoke briefly with Claude.ai about the use of artist names and pseudonyms. & so you can see that:

Claude, may I ask how legally binding it is if I use "bennoH." (your artist name/pseudonym) in the name entry in the license, which is merely an unprotected artist synonym, i.e., my artist name. I do maintain a website where this name is called "bennoH." or various forum accounts under bennoH., or the name appears on my Vimeo or YouTube account. Is that sufficient to take action in the event of a dispute?

Yes, "bennoH." A stage name is legally valid and can be used as such, but there are important points to consider:
Legal basis:
Stage names are generally protected by the right to a name according to Section 12 of the German Civil Code (BGB) Wikipedia

Your evidence is good:
Website with the name: ✅ Strong evidence
Forum accounts: ✅ Documented use
Vimeo/YouTube: ✅ Public use
Continuous use: ✅ Demonstrates an established identity
Critical point for legal enforcement:
With pseudonyms, it must be verifiable to which person the pseudonym belongs. Attorney-at-law-gessner-berlin

I myself have first introduced the license in these works as you can see there:
https://editor.isf.video/shaders/68548b88932476001a3a2606/

https://www.shadertoy.com/view/3cKSWd/

So I would very much like you to have your say and of course you are also welcome to use the license directly and post links to works where you have directly contributed them.

Dessert for VJs with little money or how to save yourself the pastry shop without effort!

So, if others can post such off-topic things here on the VJ platform, I'm certainly allowed to too, and I'll try to do even better and sweeten your weekend with my dessert-cooking instructions:

"How to skip the pastry-shop with little money and effort!"

🍞🧇🍊☕
So let's go:
Take a slice of super-cheap English toast from the discounter.
& now first, make an omelet batter -
1 egg, 2 tablespoons white flour, 1/2 dL cow's milk (3.5%), 3 tablespoons water, a pinch of salt - then pour 75% of it into another container to make omelets or crepes as the main mail, perhaps with cheese or mushrooms, or both. I recommend Gauda, the typical Dutch cheese, but to each his own - we only need 25% of this omletbatter for our dessert, and we add 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and cinnamon to our own taste.

Then we only need 1 apricot, or it could be a peach or something similar, which we halve. Now we put some sunflower oil in a frying pan and heat it up to medium heat. We then cut the toast into two triangles directly on the serving plate, following Pythagoras' principle of course. Now we put a tablespoon of the sugared omelet batter on each triangle. The toast triangles can now be placed in the frying pan with that prepared side down. We then add the fruit to the pan with the skin side up and then add the omelet batter to the still uncoated sides of the triangles and sprinkle these with a little sugar and cinnamon.
After that all about 1 minute, we turn the toast triangles and the fruit and add a little granulated sugar to the now exposed hole side. It should also be mentioned here that if the fruit is still slightly unripe, i.e. a bit sour like rhubarb, this is better, & as such fruits are sold much cheaper in many places is that a additional money-saving tip.

🍰🍊
& We can now reduce the heat to 0, and after about a minute, we arrange everything on our small plate and sprinkle it with a little more sugar and cinnamon, like desired.

☕
We also make a French farmhouse coffee: Pour a little boiling water into a large bowl with a teaspoon of ground coffee and a tablespoon of granulated sugar. Stir this mixture well and pour over the double amount of lukewarm milk.

🌈🍰☕🧁🌈
🌅🍊🌅💖😉
E Voila! Our super delicious and super affordable dessert gives us the ultimate sugar rush and drive we need to go full throttle on the VJ deck. The coffee keeps us alert and adds to the good mood that we now spread to the crowd thanks to the summery, sweet visuals that emanate from it all.🌈🏝️🌅🏖️🏵️🌇🌆🎇

OK have a great sweat weekend
your bennoH.🐼+🐿️x4
